I think I came out of the womb a marketer. I suppose I could have been a lawyer, but honestly, I think that's just too boring and too much paperwork. Marketing is a much better fit. I get to use my persuasive powers and get to have fun doing it.
You know those folks who change their majors a bunch of times in college? Well, that wasn't me. I was a communications major all the way through. If there is one thing I'm good at, it's communicating. Public speaking was my favorite class, if you catch my drift.
I think NOW is especially a great time to be a corporate marketer. While I provide strategy and execute in a number of areas of marketing, including social media, SEO, PPC, influencer relations and more, I"m very focused on content development -- from thought leadership to entertainment.
My experience creating or project managing the creation of content includes blogs, ebooks, whitepapers, skits and videos (my personal favorite). I'm a strong believer in the "new rules" of marketing.
I look for ways to break through the clutter and communicate relevant messages in a way that will get people's attention. Sometimes this is with provocative thought leadership and some times it's with humor.
Here are a few examples of the videos I worked on for my employer Kadient. The first is a music video I wrote and produced (and that's me singing as well) to educate our audience on Sales Playbook technology. The second is a very bad video (yes, I cut their heads off) of a live commerical I wrote and produced.
I believe that design does matter and that perception is almost everything. People do judge books by covers, so you better have a kick butt cover.
